1 Liner's

Langston Hughes', essay "Thank you M'am," shares a good ol' fashion lesson in tough love, relating a story of individual attention and care to enact a change in personal human value and worth.

S. Pear Sharp, in her poem "It's the Law: A Rap Peom," preaches the golden rule centering upon respect amongst man, through the use of urban rhythm in the form of rhyming couplets.

"Snapping Beans," by Lisa Parker portrays the internal struggle of a young girl torn between the diversity of new world experiences and her roots, as she chokes back the truth, symbolically represented in the form of a hickory leaf blown loose.
