The graphic novel
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi demonstrates the cruelty during the Islamic Revolution and the hardships and losses Satrapi faced during her childhood. It is a story of growing up and finding one's identity through struggle. Throughout the novel Satrapi experiences, first-hand, the terrors of the revolution; she matures, changes, and grows into an independent woman who "never forgot who she was or where she came from" even when she was far from home.
